Mr Stephen Mariadas

Foundation Governor / Chair of Governors / Curriculum & Standards Lead Governor

Stephen has a background in both business and education. Having come from 15 years working in the corporate world, Stephen qualified as a maths teacher and has since worked in Newton Abbot and Exeter. More recently Stephen became the CEO of the South West Institute of Technology responsible for higher technical education across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. He also holds a Fellowship in Technical Teaching from the Royal Commission. Stephen has two children attending St Josephs and has been involved with the governance of the school since 2015.

Mr Tim Van Kroonenburg

Foundation Governor / Vice-Chair of Governors / RE & Catholic Life Lead Governor / Safeguarding & Child Protection Lead Governor

Deacon Tim is based at St Joseph’s Parish, Newton Abbot. Tim has an education background having worked as a teacher for many years in Secondary Schools in London, and more recently at St Cuthbert Mayne School in Torquay. After retiring from teaching Tim was ordained a deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Plymouth. Tim has been involved with the governors of St Joseph’s School since 2008.

Fr Placidus Ezeh

Foundation Governor / RE & Catholic Life Shadow Governor

Placidus is a Nigerian priest from the Catholic Diocese of Orlu. Priestly, he is working as an Assisting Priest at St. Joseph's Parish, Newton Abbot, Catholic Diocese of Plymouth. He started this new apostolate in the diocese on the 13th of October, 2022. Although he has been in the educational system in his formal parishes in Nigeria, this is his first time being a school governing board member in the United Kingdom. He joined the Local CAST Board as foundation governor in October 2023. As a governor, he will be shadowing Deacon Tim with regards to the spiritual needs of the pupils in St. Joseph's School.

Mr Andrew Kennedy

Foundation Governor / SEN, Inclusion & Equality Lead Governor / Health & Safety & Data Protection Shadow Governor

For many years Andrew has tutored people with long term health conditions, helping them manage their long-term conditions, on courses across Devon. He has also worked with carers of people with chronic health conditions on courses designed to help them perform their caring role to the best of their ability.
He is currently teaching refugees on a voluntary basis, helping them to improve their English Language skills in preparation for the qualifications they will need.
As a governor of St Joseph's he is committed to supporting the education for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and the Catholic ethos of the school.

Mrs Shelley Long

Parent Governor / Health & Safety & Data Protection Lead Governor

Shelley was honoured to be asked to join the Local Governing Board as a Parent Governor at St Joseph's. She was appointed in September 2023. Shelley has two children, the eldest has moved on to secondary school and the youngest is still at St Joseph's. Shelley has a strong family connection with the school, having attended herself and her dad before her. As a Governor, and parent, Shelley will be building a solid relationship between the Church and our school.

Mrs Tammy Soby

Staff governor

Tammy has worked in education for a number of years, being a long standing teacher at St. Joseph’s for over ten years. She has experience working in EYFS, Key stage 1 and Key stage 2. Married with 4 children of her own, she is passionate about supporting our children, families and Community in any way she can. In her role as Staff Governor she is ambitious to play a full part in offering a full broad educational experience for our young people, as well as helping them improve life skills. She has a keen interest to work alongside children and families to help them to overcome barriers to learning.
